چکیده

In this supplement we present the design of the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI). The BARI team of investigators, data coordinators, staff, and support committees are committed to providing the highest quality data to scientifically test the proposed hypotheses. Considerable controversy exists about the extension of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) into the arena of therapy for multivessel coronary artery disease. Although coronary artery bypass surgery has been thoroughly compared with medical therapy in randomized trials, studies of PTCA to date have been observational in nature. The presumption that the results of trials of coronary bypass surgery can be applied to the use of PTCA is not established; this creates a dilemma that requires resolution in the most objective and scientific manner. In the Wangensteens's book (-The Rise of Surgery, 1978), there

Contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention versus balloon angioplasty for multivessel coronary artery disease: a comparison of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Dynamic Registry and the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI) study.

BACKGROUND This investigation compares the results of contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with standard balloon angioplasty among patients with multivessel coronary disease. Patients having balloon angioplasty in the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI) and those within the Dynamic Registry meeting BARI eligibility criteria were studied. METHODS AND RESU...

The effect of protocol of weaning from mechanical ventilation on gastrointestinal function in people undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG)

Abstract Aim. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of protocol of weaning from mechanical ventilation on the gastrointestinal function in people undergoing CABG. Background. The most common problems after cardiac surgery in the intensive care unit are change in vital signs, respiratory problems, unsuccessful separation from mechanical ventilation, and gastrointestinal problems. Due t...

Relationship of extent of revascularization with angina at one year in the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI).

OBJECTIVES To determine the relative degree of revascularization obtained with bypass surgery versus angioplasty in a randomized trial of patients with multivessel disease requiring revascularization (Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation [BARI]), one-year catheterization was performed in 15% of patients. BACKGROUND Complete revascularization has been correlated with improved out...

Optimal Treatment for Myocardial Revascularization: Surgery or Stenting?

Since the introduction of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in 1967, and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) 10 years later, several major clinical trials have been conducted comparing the two therapeutic strategies, such as the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI) (1) and the Coronary Angioplasty versus Bypass Revascularization Investigation (CABRI) ...
